Linus D. Schmitt

Linus D. Schmitt, 86, died Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born February 21, 1938, in Colby, son of the late Alphonse and Gertrude (Kaiser) Schmitt.  On May 21, 1960, he married Joan Seidler at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau.

Linus enjoyed playing in the Lincoln County baseball league and Wausau City basketball league.  He was a classic league bowler and golfer.  In spring he enjoyed making maple syrup.  When the weather was good, he would give his great grandchildren rides on the 4 wheeler.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Schmitt, Wausau; children, Brian (Toni) Schmitt, Wausau, Patrick (Sandra) Schmitt, Wausau and Randall (Deborah) Schmitt, Nekoosa; grandchildren, Erich (Cassidy) Schmitt, Edgar, Dustin (Alicia) Schmitt, Port Washington, Kyle Schmitt, Nekoosa and Shaena Schmitt, Wisconsin Rapids; great-grandchildren, Camri and Lofton; sister, Germaine Redmann, Athens; brother, Timothy (Suzie) Schmitt, Blenker, many other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Rita Peterson, Mary Ann Scanlon, Virjean Kunze, Pamela Schmitt, Carmen Fosdick, Blanche Zera, Naomi Kruse, Maude Kocian, Mercedes Lang, Emery, Mark and Roman Schmitt.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau.  Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk will preside.  Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Colby.  Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service all at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
