Leslie W. Siewert

Leslie "Les" W. Siewert 85, Wausau, died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau. He was born May 30, 1925 in Wausau, son of the late Oscar and Elsa (Seehafer) Siewert. On September 17, 1949 he married Virginia "Pete" Petrowski at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. She survives. Les began his military service in the United States Army in August of 1945 at Fort Sheridan, IL and was very proud of his service in Germany, Austria and Italy. He worked 36 years with the City of Wausau Public Works Department, retiring as a public works supervisor. Les was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau and the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Some of his hobbies included gardening, woodworking, yard work and fishing up North at the cottage. He also enjoyed completing projects for his grandkids, beer thirty, and canning with Pete, especially sauerkraut. Les and Pete were charter members of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Survivors include his wife of over 61 years, Virginia "Pete" Siewert, Wausau; sons, Roger Siewert, Eugene, Oreg. and Jim (Shelly) Siewert, Stillwater, Minn.; grandsons, John and Elliott Siewert, both of Delafield; daughter-in-law, Peggy Siewert, Delafield; sisters, Francis Semerau, Florence "Tootsie" Andrea and Doris (Jerry) Doepke. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charlie, siblings, Norm, Floyd "Bud", Robert, Lawrence "Red", William, Evelyn, Irene and twins, Louis and Louise. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Noon on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
