Leroy Schroeter
80, Wausau, died Friday December 3, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born November 8, 1930 in Silver Creek, son of the late Alex and Anita Schroeter. He married Margaret Bintzler, who preceded him in death. On October 11, 1986, he married Luana Toelle. She survives.
Leroy served his country during the Korean War in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by GTE for 38 years. After retiring, he worked for CCT and was currently employed at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home. Among his many involvements through the years, Leroy served as president of several Lions Clubs, was a member of Elks Lodge No. 248, Wausau, was an officer of the Pickerel Lake Association, St. Germain, was a past member of the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club, had been active in Junior Achievement, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
Special to him was the time spent at his cottage on Pickerel Lake in St. Germain where he spent many hours on his pontoon boat in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. For the past several winters, the Schroeter's spent their winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He loved dancing especially his polka music. One of his greatest pleasures was the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Luana Schroeter, Wausau, three children, Robert Schroeter, Schofield, James (Pamela) Schroeter, Wausau and Barbara (Steven) Plaza, Fergus Falls, Minn., three step children, Carl Toelle, Beaver Dam, Katheryn (John) Dehnke, Wausau and Lisa (Jeffrey) Geiger, Rhinelander, nine grandchildren, Angela Schroeter, Alex Schroeter, Alicia Schroeter, James Schroeter Jr., Nicholas Plaza, Ryan Plaza, Jessica Geiger, Jennifer Geiger, Tanner Dehnke and one brother, Willard (Pearl) Schroeter, Silver Creek.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Friday December 10, 2010 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Entombment will be in Holy Angels Mausoleum, St. Michael Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Church of St. Anne, Wausau.
