Leone H. Treu
86, 2201 Elmwood Blvd., Wausau, died Sunday September 7, 2003 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
She was born November 4, 1916 in Fenwood, daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Weidemann) Scheelk. On April 25, 1938 she married Gillman F. Treu in Iowa. He preceded her in death in May 1990.
In 1947, Leone and Gillman started in the specialty food distributing business with what would come to be known as Treu Food Products in 1960. At this time she started the manufacturing of 'Mrs. Treu's Potato Salad" and other salad products. This salad making tradition continued until her retirement in 1980. After retirement, the Treu's resided in Holiday, Florida until returning to Wausau in 1990.
Among her favorite things to do were crocheting, making beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren, crocheting lovely doilies to give away and doing craftwork. She loved gardening, fishing, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was also an avid bowler for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Jon (Carolynn) Treu, Minocqua, Robert Treu, LaCrosse; one daughter, Nancy (James) Young, Wausau, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Treu, Idaho; nine grandchildren, Todd (Diane) Treu, Wausau, Laura (Bob) Strehlow, Cambridge, Heather (Kent) Busig, N.D., Matt (Kristin) Young, Ariz., Catherine Treu, Nev., Abby Treu, Nev., Missy Young, Wausau, Bee Young, Wausau, Mai Cassie Young, Wausau; six great-grandchildren, Orion Strehlow, Paul Treu, Michele Treu, Emma Busig, Maddie Busig, Kate Young, and a sister, Olga Tobalski, Wausau.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by, a daughter, Catherine, seven sisters, Gertrude Petri, Edna Haas, Emma Radtke, Friederica Scheelk, Amanda Luedtke, Martina Randt, Lorentina Busse and four brothers, Henry Scheelk Jr., Lawrence Scheelk, Martin Scheelk and John Scheelk.
Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Friday September 12, 2003 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Bruce Lamont will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Wausau Metro Special Olympics or St. Mark Lutheran Church.
