Leonard C. Steinke

Leonard C. Steinke, 80, Wausau, died Saturday November 9, 2013 with his sons at his side at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born September 8, 1933 son of the late Robert and Martha (Stoltz) Steinke. On August 4, 1964, he married Maxine "Micky" Meyer at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death June 23, 2012. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Marine Corps as a Sergeant. He was a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Leonard worked at Marmet Corp. for 32 years, and then had been employed with Purpose Aluminum until the time of his retirement. As an avid outdoorsman, Leonard loved going up north with his sons. Their favorite times were spent bow hunting, deer hunting and fishing at the cottage. He was a loyal Packers and Badgers fan and also enjoyed gardening and cooking. Survivors include three sons, Jeff Steinke, Gerald Steinke and Mark Steinke, all of Wausau, one grandson, Jared, one brother, Ernest Steinke, Minocqua, three sisters, Alicia Meverden, Wausau, Beatrice Kurth, Wausau and Delores (Vernon) Pyke, Wausau. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Anklam and four brothers, Joseph, Rupert, Nicholas and Eugene Steinke. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday November 14, 2013 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Thomas Huff will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, where full military rites will be conducted by members of the VFW Honor Guard. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
