Leona Stankowski
80, Weston, died Wednesday April 26, 2006 at her home, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services, after losing her third battle with cancer.
She was born November 21, 1925 in Waukesha, daughter of the late James V. and Emily (Voboril) McGraw. On October 2, 1948, she married Clarence "Casey" Stankowski in Waukesha. He preceded her in death November 22, 1986.
For 24 years, Leona had been employed at Amron Corp., Waukesha and later held positions with Dale's Super Value, Wausau, The Department of Aging, Wausau and most recently with Laidlaw of Weston. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who was an exceptional role model for her daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her family, spending summer weekends at Mayflower Lake and traveling. While a member of St. Adalbert Parish, Rosholt, she belonged to the Rosary Society and currently was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau.
Survivors include her daughters, Susan (Henry) Kostuch, Cataula, Ga., Linda (Henry) Stanislawski, Rosholt, Mary (Brian) Bleyer, Stevens Point, five grandchildren, Joseph (Krista) Kostuch, Cataula, Ga., Adrian (Jill) Stanislawski, Duluth, Minn., Andrew Kostuch, Manhatten Beach, Calif., Aimee (Chad Petersen) Bleyer, Amherst, Abbi (J.C.) Garavet, Dale, Wisc., four great-grandchildren, Kate Marie and Caroline Kostuch, Cataula, Ga., Bradley and Mason Garavet, Dale, Wisc., and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roderick McGraw and sisters, Lorraine Riley and Phyllis Haizel, all of Waukesha.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday May 1, 2006 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 - 7 p.m at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, and again on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Sixth Street funeral home.
