Leona A. "Oney" Sloan 92, passed away Monday, February 6, 2006 at Colonial Manor and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau, where she was a resident for the past three years. She was born May 7, 1913 in the town of Rietbrock, daughter of the late George and Susan (Rauen) Reichl. On November 26, 1932, she married Henry G. Sloan at the former St. James Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death in 1975. After her marriage, Oney was involved in the operation of Sloan Dairy, Wausau. In the 1970's, Oney and Henry made their home in Tomahawk on the Spirit Flowage for over 40 years. For several years, she was a cook for her son, Henry Jr., when he operated the Pine Tree Club in Tomahawk. When she lived in Tomahawk, Leona was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tomahawk. She was a homemaker and a very good cook. Among her many interests, she enjoyed bingo, playing cards, fishing, word search puzzles and watching the birds at her home in Tomahawk. In her younger years, she was quite a bowler. She really enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Oney was a member of the Women's Lamplighters Club, the American Legion Post #93 Auxiliary, Tomahawk, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post Auxiliary #388, Wausau, a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau and enjoyed the fellowship at the American Legion Club. Survivors include, one son, Wallace "Wally" (Bonnie) Sloan, Wausau; one daughter, Mary Ann "Mitzie" (Roger) Bisping, Wausau; four sisters, Laura Koepp, Wausau, Annabell Viergutz, Wausau, Genevieve Behrent, Arizona and Sister Mary Thomas Reichl, Merrill; one brother, Alvin (Bets) Reichl, Wausau; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Reichl, Wausau; seven grandchildren, Debbie (Al) Berndt, Waterloo, Brian (Gloria) Bisping, Kronenwetter, Susan (Randy) Mayer, Utah, Sandy (Dave) Schirrick, Nevada, Rodney (Michelle) Sloan, Marathon, Sheila (Tim) Nordlund, Wausau, Sally Sloan, Marshfield, four step grandchildren, Jacquelyn (James) Wrycha, Menasha, Judith (Tim) Deland, Wausau, Jill Radke, Wausau and Joy (Kevin) Mallum, Mosinee; 23 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Henry Sr., she was preceded in death by her son, Henry Jr. in 1969, a daughter-in-law, Gladys (Chapman) Sloan, sisters, Regina Wozniak, Marian Fenhause and a brother, George Reichl. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday February 10, 2006 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Henry Lee and Rev. Hector Marino will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a VFW Auxiliary service at 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Pallbearers for the service will be Rodney Sloan, Brian Bisping, Al Berndt, Tim Nordlund, Kevin Mallum and Gene Johnson. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Colonial Manor for the care and concern extended to Oney.
