Leona H. Ellenbecker

Leona Ellenbecker, age 96, died on July 1, 2011, at Tivoli Nursing Home at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage, WI where she has resided for almost 5 years. Leona was born on August 23, 1914 in Dorchester, WI to the late Paul and Theresa (Vircks) Denzin. She married George Ellenbecker in 1931 and lived on a farm near Edgar. They had one daughter named Theresa. They later moved into town and Leona worked at the Edgar basket factory. After George's death in 1989 she moved to Jordan Lake to live with her daughter. She was also preceded in death, by her brothers Albert, Edward and Harold Denzin; sisters Hildene Callies, Esther Remus, Lucille Pridmore, and Anne Welbes; grandson Russell Karsten, great granddaughter Lori Karsten and two great great grand children. Leona is survived by daughter Theresa Karsten (Charles Stout) of Wisconsin Dells WI, grandchildren Richard (Lorraine) Karsten of Rockford IL, Lynn Conboy of Klamath Falls, OR, Gary Karsten of Madison WI, Nancy (Rick) Sullivan of King IL, Trish (Karl ) Smith of Forsyth Missouri, Ronald Karsten of Houston TX, Edward (Scarlet) Karsten of Rockford IL, Jean Fields of Rockford IL, LeAnn Karsten of Houston TX, Dan (Laura )Karsten of Houston TX and Cheryl (Joe) Gerow of Oregon WI, Many great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, sister Ruth Sauter, brother Clarence (Betty) Denzin and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Leona. Leona gave us many beautiful memories, wonderful family recipes, and beautiful warm quilts. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Weds. July 6, 2011 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Weds. From 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
