Leo Joseph Kriel

Leo J. Kriel 90, 6300 Birch St., Lot 265, Weston, died Saturday October 13, 2001 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. He was born July 26, 1911 in Wausau, son of the late Henry and Francis (Marvin) Kriel. On June 24, 1933 he married Eva M. Rheinschmidt in Wausau. She survives. As a young man, Leo had been employed at Idlewild Resort, Harshaw from which time he had lots of stories to tell. Later, he had been employed by the former Muskegon Piston Ring, Wausau, where he met his wife-to-be, Eva. In 1940 the Kriel's moved to Beloit where Leo was a machinist at Fairbanks & Morse Co. In 1946 the family moved to Prineville, Oregon for one year then returned to Beloit. Leo & Eva owned and operated 'Kriel's Beer Bar' in Rothschild for 11 years, then returning to Beloit to work for Black and Decker Co. After his retirement, Leo was employed by the Shooting Range in Mosinee. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors besides his wife, Eva, include two daughters, Jean (Orville) Gritzmacher, Wausau and Carol Kriel, Weston, grandchildren; Tim (Theresa) Gritzmacher, Knowlton, Todd Gritzmacher, Brian (Linda) Richey, Keith Richey, J.J. Manowski, all of Wausau, Brandon Orcutt and Brenda Orcutt, Beloit, one great-grandson, Derek Schubring, Wausau, one sister, Margaret Salzman, Wausau. He was preceded in death by a son, Leon in 1973, a sister, Cecelia Kriel, three brothers, Jim, Joseph and Oscar Kriel. Private family services were held. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th St., Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
