It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Leo Bornheimer at Benedictine Living Center on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
He was born February 16, 1939 in Wausau, the fourth of twelve children to Leo and Regina (Brzezinski) Bornheimer. Leo attended Holy Family grade school and graduated from Athens High School, class of 1957. On May 14, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jean Berghammer at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. They were married 64 years in 2024. They have one daughter, Donna.
Leo started working as a young boy for a neighbor farmer and did construction work for several years. In 1962 he started employment at Marathon Cheese Corporation, retiring in 2003. In his younger years he enjoyed shooting pool, bowling in men’s league and couples league, golfing in men’s league and with many friends at various courses. For 21 years Leo and three friends went to Nashville to golf for a week in March. He also enjoyed deer hunting and spending time in his woods and at the cottage in Tomahawk. Leo attended many Packer games, including two Superbowl’s. In later years he enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers and Brewers on television. For many years he would attend high school sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, daughter, Donna, his siblings, Norman (Phyllis), Eileen Bornheimer, Ceil (Duane) Felzkowski, Harvey (Ione), Audrey (Dale) Hoffmann, Jim (Carolyn), Dennis (June) and Linda Coe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bernard (Patsy), Elmer and Leonard and brother-in-law, Rick Coe.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, October 6, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier and Rev. Larry Abler will concelebrate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of the Mass on Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or St. Mary Catholic School.
