Leander "Bud" Kieffer
92, Wausau, died Friday May 2, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born December 7, 1915, in Wausau, son of the late Francis and Helen (Staege) Kieffer. On June 1, 1940, he married Anita Schult in Menoninee, Mich. She survives.
For many years, Leander owned and operated F.X. Kieffer & Son Meat Market in Wausau and later retired from Milwaukee Cheese.
Survivors include his wife, Anita (Schult) Kieffer, Wausau, two children, Gary (Barbara) Kieffer, Wausau and Kathy (Oscar) Durkee, Wausau, five grandchildren, Nathan Kieffer, Boston, Mas., Andrew Kieffer, Wausau, Brent Zinkevecz, Appleton, Sarah Goree, Wausau and Jonathon Durkee, Wausau, one great grandson, Ethan Goree, one sister, Muriel (Del) Champine, Waupaca.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Natalie Engels, Lavila Zielsdorf, Ariana Kreuser and one brother, Myron Kieffer.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 6, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Joel Schmalz will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at Zion Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
