Lawrence Joseph Peters

August 14, 1924 — March 11, 2024

Lawrence J. Peters, 99, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Mount View Care Center, with family beside him.   He was born on August 14, 1924 in Edgar, WI, son of the late Andrew and Elseda (Feiereisen) Peters.  On June 28, 1947, he married Jeanette Hendrickson, whom he met on a blind date while on leave during the war.  Mom passed away in November, 2022.  They were able to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary at Mount View  with a small family gathering.

Lawrence proudly served in the US Navy from 1943 – 1946, serving in the Pacific theater on an LST, providing support and equipment to the soldiers during landings.  Lawrence and Jeanette attended several ship reunions over the years, reconnecting with friends from the LST398.  He was joined with son, Paul, on a Never Forgotten Honor Flight in April 2012. He felt it was one of the best experiences of his life.

Lawrence worked for 42 years at Motor Service and Supply Company, retiring in 1990.  He began as an apprentice, became a master automotive machinist and retired as shop supervisor.  He was known for his extensive knowledge of all types of engines and his creative solutions to problems with them.  He mentored many young men in the field over the years.

During his retirement years, Dad helped in the remodeling and/or building of all our families’ homes.  He was always ready for a new project, willing to repair, remodel or build.  He patiently taught the younger people how to plan and complete projects of any size, passing on the idea that they could solve problems themselves.

Dad was devoted to his family.  Over the years, Mom and Dad nurtured not only their children, but their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; making each one feel special.

Lawrence was deeply committed to his faith.  He served Mass with dignity until he was 92 years old, providing guidance and support to a new generation of servers.  He was proud to be able to assist with many funerals of fellow church members.  He believed this was a way to serve them and the Lord.

Survivors include five children, Alan (Crystal) Peters, Merrill, Catherine (David) Edens, Weston, Audrey (Matthew Klimek) Brum, Minocqua, Paul (Patty) Peters, Wausau and Susanne (Lee) Knight, Barron; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, two sisters, and 4 grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.  on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Holy Name Catholic Church, Wausau.  Rev. Samuel Martin will preside.  Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 10, Wausau.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

The family would like to thank the  staff of Mount View Care Center.  They took both Mom and Dad into their hearts and provided them with such loving care.  It will never be forgotten.

Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
