Lawrence Penno

Lawrence Penno, 93, Athens, died Friday January 8, 2010 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. He was born July 7, 1916 in Athens, son of the late Fred and Minnie (Bramm) Penno. The family later moved to Clovis, California where they purchased a home and began to develop a vineyard. During the Depression Lawrence and his family moved back to Athens where Lawrence attended and graduated from Trinity Lutheran School. The Penno family purchased the Bramm home farm in 1924, during this time Lawrence grew up helping with farm chores. Later, Lawrence did odd jobs away from the family farm and then purchased the Becker farm where he retired after 30 years of employment at Wausau 3M Corporation. Lawrence remained a bachelor his entire life. Survivors include his sister, Dorothy (Ferd) Mais, Wausau, brother, Carl Penno, Edgar and three nephews, Mark (Bonnie) Penno, Iowa City, IA, Tim (Linda) Penno, Marshfield and Brian (Joan) Mais, Wausau, one great nephew, Alex Penno, Iowa City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Frederick, two step brothers, Irvin Scherz and Walter Scherz, two nieces and one nephew. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday January 12, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church-LCMS, Athens. The Rev. Andrew Alberts will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Lutheran cemetery, Athens. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church-LCMS, Athens.
