Lawrence "Shorty" Miller

Lawrence "Shorty" J. Miller, 88, formerly of Edgar, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau, surrounded by family. He was born April 27, 1925 in the town of Rietbrock, son of the late Theodore and Anna (Socha) Miller. On September 1, 1952 he married Phyllis Bonin at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2011. Shorty attended Edgar High School. In 1946 he began farming and in addition was employed at Cloverbelt Cheese Factory from 1943 to 1951 and again from 1965 to 1975. He also owned and operated Miller Implement in Athens from 1958 to 1965. Shorty and Phyllis retired from farming in 1988. His favorite pastime was attending auctions. He also enjoyed buying and repairing farm machinery, attending Edgar sporting events and church picnics. Spending time with his family and grandchildren was also very special to him. Survivors include his children, Larry Miller, Wausau and his daughter, Sarah (Travis) Strasser and their daughters, Emma and Kylie: Edward (Irene) Miller, Edgar and children, Rachel (Justin) Lancaster and their children, Rex and Reagan, Gabriel Miller, Hannah (Jeremy) Olson and their daughter, Jaci; Ann (Tim) Jolliffe, Wausau and children, Elizabeth, Emily and Vincent Jolliffe; Janice (Greg) Williams, Wausau and children, Kellen, Maria and Alex Williams; Mary Kay (Jeff) Blomquist, Wausau, and children, Mikalah, Natalie and Andrea Blomquist; Pamela (Joel) Kiepke, Wausau, and children, Kendra, Jared and Christian Kiepke; Tim (Karen) Miller, Mosinee, and children, Logan, Allison and Kyle Miller; sister, Delores (Luke) Lang, Marathon; brother-in-law, Joseph Bonin, Athens; Two sisters-in-law, Rita Bonin, Edgar and Lorraine Bonin, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ted, grandchildren, Scott Miller, Alexandra Williams and Elijah Kiepke, sisters, Lucille, Regina and Leona and brothers, John, Edward, Benedict and Joseph. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service Friday at the Edgar funeral home.
