Lawrence H. Kohnhorst, 90, formerly of the town of Hamburg, died Thursday April 15, 2004 at Golden Age Nursing Home, Tomahawk.
He was born June 21, 1913 in the town of Wien, son of the late William and Elsa(Hartig)Kohnhorst. On April 11, 1942 he married Esther Pyan in Rib Falls. She preceded him in death on February 10, 1988.
Lawrence farmed on his family farm until 1947. During this time he also worked as an ice cream maker for Metheisen Dairy. In 1947 he moved his family to Athens and drove truck for Braun Brothers Lumber. In 1968 he moved to the Hamburg area, and worked for Fromm Brothers until his retirement.
Lawrence and Esther were both very musically talented, and together they had a polka band, which played many dances thru out the 40s, 50s and60s. Until the day he died Lawrence could be found humming and singing his favorite polkas.
He enjoyed working on his lawn, in his garden and going fishing. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. He loved going out for drives with his grandchildren, and nothing could light his face up more than having his great grandchildren come to visit him.
Survivors include one son, Delos (Marion) Kohnhorst, Hamburg; one daughter, Marcella (Tom) Domine, Lindsay; 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, April 19, 2004 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Berlin. Rev. Jeffrey Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9:00am until the time of services at the church.
