Lawrence H. Hartman

Lawrence H. Hartman, 98, Athens, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. He was born October 1, 1915 in Athens, son of the late Tony "T.A." and Mary (Kress) Hartman. On July 14, 1941, he married Helen A. Sedivy at St. Mary Catholic Church, Phillips. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2004. Lawrence owned and operated Hartman's Variety Store in Athens for many years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a longtime member of the men's choir. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed flower gardening and hunting and fishing with his family. Survivors include, two daughters, Kathryn (Allen Holzhueter) Hartman, Madison and Victoria Hartman, Yosemite National Park, CA; three sons, Anthony Hartman, Medford, MA, James (Judith) Hartman, Athens and David (Susan) Hartman, Cedarburg; six grandchildren, Teresa Hartman, Amanda Hartman, Jeff Felzkowski, Jane Wisniewski, Jon (Karen) Felzkowski and Jean (Lee Roy Jacobi) Felzkowski; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Marge Hartman; and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph; two brothers, George and Bill "Wiggy" Hartman; and two sisters, Margaret Driessen and Marie Bachhuber. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Paul Hoffman and Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony School.
