Lawrence L. Gantner
90, Wausau died Friday, October 1, 2010 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau.
He was born December 29, 1919 in Edgar, son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Schueller) Gantner. On November 12, 1945 he married Vera Kulas at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. She survives.
Lawrence worked as a cement finisher through WI Laborer's Local 268. Some of his favorite pastimes included tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, taking trips to Canada with the "guys", traveling with Vera, and spending time with neighborhood buddies on their scooters.. Lawrence will always be remembered as a gentle, hardworking generous man.
Lawrence proudly served his country in the United States Army under the direction of Gen. George W. Patton with the African-Italian Campaign. Survivors include his wife, Vera Gantner, Wausau, his two sons, Brian (Sue) Gantner and Scott Gantner, both of Wausau, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, his siblings, Claude (Joyce) Gantner, Rib Mountain, Caroline Witucki and Lucille Rausch, both of Athens, Mary Jane (James) Frieders and Francis Johnsen, both of Wausau, his sisters-in-law, Joyce Gantner, Westfield and Jane Gantner, Wausau, his son-in-law, Jim Albrecht, Wausau along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynette Albrecht, brothers, Alphonse, Joseph and Wilfred "Fritz" and his sister, Germaine. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon, Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. James Schaefer will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Lawrence's name.
