Laverne M. Krautkramer
73, Marathon, died Monday March 5, 2012 at her home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born March 17, 1938, in Marathon, daughter of the late Elroy and Amanda (Hornung) Kurtzweil. On May 1, 1957, she married Lyle Krautkramer at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He survives.
Prior to their marriage, Laverne had been employed at the former Winkelman's Department Store and Steffke Freight. Laverne and Lyle farmed in the town of Marathon after their marriage until the time of their retirement. They enjoyed traveling after their retirement and also loved to spend time up north at their cottage. Laverne enjoyed bird watching, gardening, her White German Shepherds and her Cairn Terriers. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many an outfit for the family. Special to her was the time spent with family and she was happiest when she was cooking the family a meal or attending the grandchildren's extracurricular activities.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle Krautkramer, Marathon, four children, Kathy (Jeff) Koppa, Marathon, Brenda Kraft, Wausau, Francis (Jayme) Krautkramer, Marathon, Cindy (Alan) Schreier, Marathon, nine grandchildren, Jennifer (fiancAC., Jason Jensen) Koppa, Stacy, Robert & Jonathon Kraft, Elyse, Brandon & Kara Krautkramer, David & Kristin Schreier; four sisters, Lillian (Fred) Lang, Marathon, Angie Martens, Wausau, Donna Mae (John) Austin, Wisconsin Rapids, Elaine (Richard) Kienbaum, Waupaca, a sister-in-law, Elaine Kurtzweil, Merrill and a brother-in-law, Richard Jansen, West Bend.
Besides her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Koppa, a brother, Lyle Kurtzweil and a sister, Mary Jane Jansen.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 8, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Weds from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. A memorial fund will be established at a later date. Laverne's grandchildren will honor her as pallbearers, carrying their beloved grandmother to her place of final rest.
