LaVerne "Vern" A. Folz, 88, Wausau, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born July 31, 1923 in Marshfield, son of the late Matthew and Agnes (Martin) Folz. On May 3, 1947 he married Dolores Kottmeyer in Marshfield and she preceded him in death on October 23, 2002. On August 4, 2010 he married Dolores Haas in Mosinee. She survives.
During World War II, Vern served his country in the United States Army 341st Engineers for three years and was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau.
Vern was the manager at Leath Furniture for 33 years and after his retirement worked at Wausau Medical Center for over 15 years. He was a devoted Packer fan, avid bowler, golfer and loved to play cards with his children and grandchildren. Vern was a member of the Stettin Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Thomas Moore Club and volunteered in many capacities at the Church of St. Anne.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Haas-Folz, Wausau; one daughter, Pat (Richard) Czeck, Victoria, Minnesota; three sons, Dennis (Nancy) Folz, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, Gary (Beth) Folz, Princeton, Illinois. and Mark (Elizabeth) Folz, Wausau; four grandchildren, Matt and Brian Folz, Dr. Hillary (Dr. Kai) Voris and Jeff Folz; four step-sons, Gilbert (Ann) Haas, Glen Haas, Gregory (Tammy) Haas and Gaylen (Jenny) Haas; six step-grandchildren, Emily, Olivia, Trevor, Tyler, Brittany and Briella Haas; one sister, Lucille Specht, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
Besides his parents and first wife, Dolores, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Helmuth Folz and three sisters, Birdetha Kohlbeck, Della Folz and Irene Ganster.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Entombment will be in Holy Angels Mausoleum, St. Michael Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Church of St. Anne, Wausau.
