Lavern I. Lang, age 75, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born January 27, 1938 in Wausau, son of the late William and Dorothy (Lepak) Lang. On September 10, 1960 he married Sandra Vetter at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives.
Lavern was a lifelong dairy farmer and drove school bus for Marathon School District for 22 years. He also worked for Schroeder Excavating for 11 years and was a licensed cheese maker for 17 years. In his free time he enjoyed listening to Polka music, reading, and watching westerns, especially those with John Wayne. He was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed fixing cars and machinery, and driving in the convertible he recently got that he had waited for since he was a teenager. He was a 50 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of the St. Mary's Adult Choir for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra, Marathon; sons, Kevin (Monica) Lang, Michael (Terrie) Lang, all of Marathon and Christopher (Ashley) Lang, Stevens Point; daughters, Carmen Lang, Pamela (Michael) Telford, all of Marathon and Ann (Robert) Murry, Mosinee; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kimberly, Katy and Michael Lang, Allison and Travis Telford, Samantha Murry (Anthony Pilsner), Bradly, Dustin, Brett, Lindsey and Brenna Murry; brothers, Herbert (Shirley) Lang, Wayne (Janice) Lang, all of Marathon; sisters, Sylvia Payne, Merrill, Vivian (Howard) Jeske, Marathon, Patricia Nowack, Marathon and Jeannie (Dale) Sauter, Edgar, his special dog, Ozzie, and many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, David and Gary Lang.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. prayer service on Saturday at the Marathon funeral home.
