Lauren "Apples" O. Weinkauf, 84, Wausau, mercifully passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born November 17, 1930 in Wausau, son of the late Orville and Erna (Brendemuehl) Weinkauf. Lauren attended Wausau High School and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country as a flight engineer in various stations around the world. Following his discharge from the military, he worked for Drott Manufacturing and retired from J. I. Case Manufacturing.
Lauren was an avid horticulturalist, fisherman, craftsman, amateur astronomer and self taught electronic engineer among a great many other interests. He also enjoyed gardening, canning and baking.
Survivors include, one sister, Joanne (Larry) Nolin, Sycamore, Ill; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Rinka and Louetta Lee; and three brothers, Alan, Wayne and David Weinkauf.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. The Rev. Mary Weinkauf will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with full military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
