Laura B. Stieber

Laura B. Stieber 100, formerly of 1028 S. 6th Ave., Wausau, died Friday, August 20, 2004 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services at Cedar Ridge Elder Services, Mosinee. She was born June 9, 1904 in Marathon, daughter of the late John and Josephine (Milbeck) Murr. On June 16, 1921, she married Otto Stieber in Marathon. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1975. Laura had been employed at Marathon Rubber Plant and volunteered at Holy Name School Hot Lunch Program. She was a member of the St. Catherine Council and the Ministry of Praise at Holy Name Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Secular Order of Franciscans and National Catholic Society of Foresters. Among her favorite hobbies were flower & vegetable gardening, canning her garden produce, playing cards, playing bingo, fishing and swimming. From age 72 to 82, she was an avid cross county skier. Survivors include six daughters, Marian (Joseph) Van Kollenburg, Chicago, Sylvia (Wallace) Hintz, Chippewa Falls, Vernetta (Oscar) Lang and Joan Schmitz all of Milwaukee, Theresa (Richard) Wohlford, Wausau and Julianne (Jack) Froom, Ringle; three sons, Elroy (Helen) Stieber and Ralph Stieber all of Wausau and John (Janet) Stieber, Mosinee; 44 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Virginette Stieber and Loretta Hamilton; seven brothers, Arnold, Robert, John, Anton, Leo, Rudy and Clarence Murr; two sisters, Tilly Finken and Vi Johnson. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Joseph Gyim-Austin will preside. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
