Kenneth F. Smith 94, Wausau, died Monday, October 20, 2008 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau. He was born May 8, 1914 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, son of the late Joseph and Fern (Wilkes) Smith. On October 10, 1941 he married Genevieve Nielsen in St. Paul, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2007. Prior to his retirement he had been employed as a safety engineer with Wausau Insurance Company. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Ken and Genevieve were very active volunteers in the community since 2003. They received the "Orchid to You" Award from the Altrusa International Inc. recognizing their volunteerism. Their causes were the Salvation Army, Mount View Care Center, Catholic Charities, Volunteer Center of Marathon County, Marathon County Public Library and the Church of St. Anne. He was also a member of the Golden Kiwanis. Survivors include cousins, relatives and friends. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
