Kathleen R. Sowinski
89, Wausau, died Thursday November 24, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born August 24, 1922, in Halder, daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Thanig) Maguire. On June 27, 1942, she married Ignatius "Iggy" Sowinski at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. He preceded her in death December 21, 1998.
After graduating from Mosinee High School in 1940, Kathleen attended Wausau Business College and graduated third in her class. Kathleen started her working career by doing her part in the war effort as an employee of Douglas Aircraft in Chicago and retired in 1982 from the International Woodworkers of America.
Her faith was a very important aspect in her life and she was a devout member of St. Michael Catholic Church, was a member of their Rosary Confraternity and served as secretary of the parish council. Among her other involvements, she was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10 Auxiliary and for the Antique Auto Club prepared the newsletter.
Among her favorite things to do were crossword puzzles, cooking and baking. In years past, she and her husband Iggy enjoyed daily visits with Josie Check and Wanda Kryshak.
Above all, life for Kathleen centered on her family and she truly loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her five children, Dolores (John Sr.) Gribowski, Kronenwetter, Frances (Raymond) Bender, Kronenwetter, Thomas (Sue) Sowinski, Hortonville, Mary (Rick) Wolfe, Aniwa, Glenn (Patricia) Sowinski, Wausau, grandchildren, Ellen, John Jr., Joseph (Kelly), Patrick (Rachelle), Lisa and Stacey Gribowski; Michelle (Max) Rodriguez, Kelly (Michelle) Bender, Matthew Bender, Cathy (Jaye) Davidoski; Bradley (Tammy) and Scott (Kim) Sowinski; Corey (Rachel), Jason (Shelly) and Amy (Lucas) Wolfe; 20 great grandchildren, Cody, Caleb, Hailey, Austin, Dalton, Madison and Daejo; Ashley, Keynan, Hayzl, Andrew and Brooke, Katelin, Isabelle, Carter, Simon, Madalyn, Tanner, Audra, and Shayla; one sister, Ann Michalik, Schofield.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Raleigh, Dorothy Goode, Mae Fuller, Verene Scheidewind, Florence, Cecil, Joseph and Emeron Maguire.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday November 29, 2011 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch and Rev. Barnabas Kyea will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 4 A
