June Rita Arps, 86, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Gardenside Crossing, Wausau with loving family at her bedside.
June was born June 16, 1924 in Green Bay, Wis. to Harold and Marie (Jauquet) Giese. She was the third of 5 children in her family. After graduating from Green Bay East High School in 1942, June worked as an executive secretary at Prange's in Green Bay.
She met her husband, Louis C. Arps Jr., at a dance at Bay Beach in Green Bay. They were married May 30, 1947 at St. John's Catholic Church in Green Bay. She often told people her name was June, she was born in June, so she did not want to be married in June.
After relocating to Wausau , they started their family of two sons and three daughters. June was a wonderful stay-at-home mother while her children were young, then returned to work after they got older. She enjoyed knitting mittens, hats and scarves for everyone and finishing the newspaper crossword puzzle each morning as she ate her breakfast and had her decaf coffee. She also loved to sing and dance and entertained the residents, nurses and staff while living at Gardenside Crossing.
June is survived by Louie, her husband of 63 years and children, Gregory (Jeannie) Arps, Wisconsin Dells; Debra (Bill) Overbeck, Rothschild; Michele (Eugene Litzer) Arps, Wausau; Julianne (Jay) Kolbeck, Wausau; and Kevin Arps, Wausau. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Nelson, DePere; Chris Overbeck, Minneapolis, MN; Jessi (Scott) Towle, Wausau; Kelli (fiancAC. Willie Vetter) Kolbeck, Wauwatosa; two step-grandchildren, Tara (Dan) Anchor, Wisconsin Dells; and Lewis (Melissa) Borck, New Mexico; five great-grandchildren, Ashlee and Alexis Nelson and Connor, Nolan, and Emmett Towle; three step-great-grandchildren, Hailey and Dylan Anchor and Maya Borck. She also is survived by a sister, Marianne (Jerrold) Moore, North Fort Myers, FL and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert & Gerald Giese and one sister, Gloria Giese.
The Arps family is grateful for the compassionate care "Junebug" received and would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Mount View Care Center, especially those at Gardenside Crossing for their kindness and thoughtfulness.
