Juel C. Yelich, 92, Wausau, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born November 16, 1916, in Iron Belt, daughter of the late George H. and Juella (Lyons) Nolan. On August 9, 1941 she married Thomas J. Yelich at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wakefield, Mich. He preceded her in death April 13, 2005.
Juel graduated from Luther L. Wright High School, Ironwood, Mich. Continuing her education, she earned a B. A. in History and English, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and a Library Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.
She taught History, English, and Dramatics in Ladysmith, later moving to Wausau with Tom and their family. After sacrificing a number of teaching years as a loving mother to her sons, she eventually went back to teaching at St. Anne Parochial School and then worked for The Wausau School District as a Library Specialist for 19 years.
Juel was a long standing member of the Wisconsin Education Association, MCRA, Catholic Women's Club, Wausau Women's Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. A very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Juel served on various committees and due to moving, she transferred to St. Michael Parish where she also was very active on various committees including tutoring first graders.
A devoted mother, Juel loved her children and grandchildren very much. Among her favorite things to do were dancing, golf, playing cards, traveling and visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include, three sons, Nolan (Hope) Yelich, Williamsburg, VA., Thomas Jr. (Gail) Yelich, Sun Prairie, Wis., and Dan (Jane Ivol) Yelich, St. Louis, MO.; seven grandchildren, Scott (Denise) Yelich, Tammy (Tom) Hargrove, Ty (Michelle) Yelich, Tracy (Roger) Schesel, Rebecca and Tommy Yelich, Annie (Matt) Dobrodzie; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Autumn Elizabeth Yelich, Joseph, Megan, Coby, Katelyn, and Ryan Schesel, Connor and Andrew Hargrove, and Daniel and Emma Autumn Yelich; two sisters-in-law, Dora Nolan and Gertrude Yelich; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Tom, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2008 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the church.
