Joyce A. Szuminski, 81, formerly of Marathon, died Monday, April 24, 2017 in Menomonee Falls.
She was born April 3, 1936, in Marathon, daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Wadzinski) Kienbaum. On October 3, 1959, she married Edwin P. Szuminski at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. He preceded her in death December 7, 2011.
Joyce worked at St. Regis Paper Company and also as a nurses aide at Northwest Health Care Center in Milwaukee. After Edwin's death, Joyce moved back to Menomonee Falls to be closer to family. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed crocheting, playing solitaire, decorating for the holidays and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed helping at Color Vision and the St. Anthony Spirituality Center while living in Marathon.
Survivors include two children, Donna (Bob) Makowski and Perry (Paulette) Szuminski, both of Menomonee Falls, five grandchildren, Elizabeth Blader, Monica (Kevin) Buyatt, Rebecca Makowski, Jessica Szuminski and Nathan Szuminski; four great-grandchildren; Jack, Sadie, Chase and Tanner; three siblings, Jeanette (Don) Wagner, Marshfield, Richard (Elaine) Kienbaum, Waupaca and LeRoy Kienbaum, Rothschild; brother-in-law, Sylvian (Gloria) Szuminski, Hancock; two sisters-in-law, Jolanta (Frank) Jagodzinski, Edgar and Virginia Szuminski, Marathon; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Cassel. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Anthony Spirituality Center, 300 E. 4th Street, Marathon, WI 54448.
