Josephine A. Check
95, 1224 Jefferson St., Wausau, died Thursday January 6, 2005 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born March 5, 1909 in Wausau, daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Skarwecki) Sowinski. On June 28, 1927 she married Alex Check in Wausau. He preceded her in death September 29, 1972.
Josephine had been employed at the former H.C.Prange Co. She was a longtime member of St. Michael Catholic Church and their Rosary Confraternity. Through the years, Josephine was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed playing Bingo and other activities at the nursing home. She will be fondly remembered for touching the heart of all those she came to know.
Survivors include four daughters, Lorraine (Bernard) Dallman, Hatley, Florence Wesenick, Schofield, Jean (Roger) Marten, Wausau, Joan (Gary) Radtke, Green Bay, 22 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, two sisters, Leona Buedding and Tina Engstrom, both of Wausau. She is also survived by Daniel Check, whom she raised like one of her own.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, one sister and Josephine Dallman, whom she raised.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday January 10, 2005 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch and Rev. Joseph Rafacz will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 - 5 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sixth Street funeral home.
