Josephine "Jo" Phyllis Brookhyser, 83, formerly of Athens, died Monday December 6, 2004 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born January 5, 1921 in Eagle River, daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Sawyer) Habrich. On August 4, 1940 she married Angus "Curly" Brookhyser in Wausau. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2003.
Josephine was a teacher, homemaker and was a longtime member of the Athens Homemakers Club. Among her favorite things to do were, writing, playing cards and playing the piano. She was fond of the outdoors and especially enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Survivors include; four sons, Bernard Brookhyser, Alabama, Glenn (Debbie) Brookhyser, Mazomanie, Wendell (Sue) Brookyser, Watertown, and Karl Brookhyser, Wausau; two daughters Karen Brookhyser, Sacramento, Cal. and Gretchen Townsend, Albuquerque, New Mex.; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren.; one sister Marjorie Marazi, Phillipsburg, N.J.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Angus and two sisters, Nola and JoAnne.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday December 10, 2004 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Eagle River. Friends may call on Thursday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Athens funeral home.
