Joseph A. "Joe" Stencil
The funeral mass for Joseph A. Stencil will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Monday February 4, 2008 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Norman Boneck will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from Noon until the time of services all at the church. Mr. Stencil, 91, Edgar, died Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born July 26, 1916 near Poniatowski, the first son of the late Anton and Rose (Urmanski) Stencil. On February 4, 1940, he married Emily Dallman at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. She preceded him in death October 27, 2002.
As a young man, Joe worked in his father's logging camp near Watersmeet, Michigan. Upon his return to Wisconsin, he farmed in the town of Wein and was a shovel operator for Knauf Brothers in Marathon. In 1954, the Stencils bought a farm in the town of Rietbrock and he worked off the farm at Wausau Iron Works. He was able to 'build' any piece of equipment he needed. In 1972, Joe started an excavation business which today is still run by his son.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar. Joe loved going to church dinners, polka dancing and listening to music. He will be remembered fondly working his bulldozers and backhoes.
Survivors include a son, Arlyn (Bev) Stencil, Edgar, a son-in-law, Eugene Scheiderer, Edgar, eight grandchildren, Cara (Fred) Baeseman, Edgar, Mark (Margo) Scheiderer, Wausau, Brenda Stencil, Washington DC, Ken (Kelly) Scheiderer, Edgar, Jodi (Eric) Dorn, Wausau, Rhonda (Jon) Verdegan, Stevens Point, David Stencil, San Diego, Calif., Kristin Scheiderer, Edgar, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Florence (Marcel) Carr, Wausau, Adeline (Omer) Boser, Piggott, Ark., three brothers, George (Ann) Stencil, Wallace (Arlene) Stencil, all of Edgar, Duane (Betty) Stencil, New Lisbon, sisters-in-law, Esther (Clifford) Kolpack, Regina Stencil, all of Edgar, Suzanne (John) Burish, Marathon.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Stencil, a daughter, Roxanne Scheiderer, three brothers, John, Lawrence and Ervin Stencil and one brother-in-law, Clem Myszka.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Aspirus Wausau Hospital for the kindness shown to Joe and family during his final hours. A special large thank you to all of the "Ma's" at Wausau Manor who took such good care of Joe. He had a wonderful home there for two and one half years.
The family requests memorial be directed to St. John Catholic Church or School.
