Joseph J. Schremp

Joseph J. Schremp 92, Wausau, died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. He was born April 26, 1913 in Athens, son of the late John and Katherine (Back) Schremp. He married Ruth Prey. She preceded him in death. Then he married Erma Smart on August 13, 1983 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives. Joseph was an Army Veteran of World War II serving with the Seventh Engineer Battalion in Ireland and the European Theater. He was a life member of the American Legion Montgomery Post #10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388, both of Wausau. Joseph was a tow motor operator for Connor Forest Industries, Wausau, until the time of his retirement. He was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, in which he ushered and counted money on Mondays. He was an avid bowler, playing on the Senior Citizen League, a golfer, playing on the Old Timers Golfing League but what gave him great pleasure was golfing with his stepchildren. Besides his wife, Erma Schremp, Wausau, survivors include one step daughter, Sheila (Fred) Paul, Grafton, Virginia; one step son, Earl (Nancy) Mielke, Hudson; three step grandchildren, Gregory (Lisa) Mielke and Meghan Mielke, Hudson and Jason "J.J." Paul, Portsmouth, Virginia; three step great grandchildren: Madeline Rose Mielke, Anden and Ashton Paul; one sister, Evelyn Sprenger, Abbottsford; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau where full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wausau. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Joseph will be sadly missed by his family.
