Joseph J. Nowak Sr

Joseph J. Nowak Sr. 90, town of Cassel, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at The House of Dove, Marshfield. He was born March 19, 1920 in Marathon County, son of the late Michael Sr. and Mary (Semski) Nowak. On June 22, 1943, he married Clara Knetter at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1994. Joe was a dairy farmer most of his life and also worked for the Cassel township in road maintenance. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and playing "crazy eights". Survivors include, three sons, Roger (Carol) Nowak, Edgar, Jim (Patricia) Nowak, Stratford and Bob (Norma) Nowak, Edgar; nine grandchildren, Gloria (Cabot) Koeller, Rhinelander, Scott (Jenny) Nowak, Marshfield, Tammy (Troy) Singer, Stratford, Shelly (Ric) Kuse, Marshfield, James Jr. (Jolene) Nowak, Marshfield, David Nowak, Stratford, Mary (Ricky) Landwehr, Stratford, Joseph Nowak III, Edgar and Josh Nowak, Stratford; 10 great-grandchildren, Brett, Caleb, Kolby and Jaden Koeller, Dakota and Dayne Singer, Ahlexis, Carson and Addyson Nowak, Brianna Landwehr, and one on the way; one brother, Mike (Eline) Nowak, Edgar; one sister, Mary Brzezinski, Edgar; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Clara, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Nowak II; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Nowak; one great grandson, Brandon Koeller; two sisters, Clara Feltz and Della Michlig; and two brothers, John and Edwin Nowak. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. Rev. Barnabas Kyea will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
