John Wiedow Jr., 82, formerly of Wausau, died Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Theda Care Medical Center, Waupaca.
He was born March 15, 1934 in Wausau, son of the late John and Clara (Baguhn) Wiedow. On June 2, 1955, he married Teiko Okuda in Tokyo, Japan.
John served in the Korean War in the United States Airforce as an air radio operator with the 421st air refueling squadron in Japan. He was one of the only survivors of a mid-air refueling explosion. John was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Peplin Memorial Post No. 8280, Mosinee. For many years, he worked as a detective for both the Rothschild and Wausau Police Departments.
Survivors include, two sons, John Wiedow, Little Chute and James (Charlotte) Wiedow, Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) May, Mulberry, Fla., Christina (Ryan) Moore, San Jose, Cal., Darcy (Nick) Huston, Algoma, Jonathan Wiedow, Milwaukee and Brittany (Andrew) Van Thiel, Seymour; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Kickbusch, Wausau; and two nieces, Mary Kickbusch, Marathon and Karolyn (Peter) Franckowiak, Marshfield.
Besides his parents and wife, Teiko, he was preceded in death by an infant child and one brother-in-law, Arthur Kickbusch.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, 280 County Road A, town of Hamburg. Rev. Philip Bogen will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Mar-Lin Post No. 10203, Hamburg.
