John P. Tobakos, 81, 233 North 12th Avenue, Wausau, died Monday, December 2, 2002 at his home.
John was born October 30, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late John and Elizabeth (Turoczi) Tobakos. He married Carol Sotich on May 17, 1952 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on January 23, 1978.
Prior to his retirement he was employed as a tool & dye designer for Marathon Electric. John was currently serving his second term with the Wausau School Board. He was a member of AARP, and a member of the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups. He also was a member of the Monarch Lions, served as past District Governor of the Wisconsin Lions and was past Chairman of the Lions State Youth Exchange Program. Photography and collecting coins and stamps were among his favorite things to do.
He is survived by four children, John (Patricia) Tobakos, Vine Grove, Kentucky, James (Rose Ann) Tobakos, DeForest, Beth Tobakos, Madison, William Tobakos, Lamar, South Carolina; three grandchildren; one brother, Frank (Melissa) Tobakos, Martinez, Georgia.
Besides his wife, Carol and his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Steve and one sister, Elizabeth.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 7 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2002 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 5 p.m. until the time of services all at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
