John R. Stiel

John R. Stiel, 74, died Thursday, September 26, 2024, under the care of Compassus Hospice at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

He was born August 3, 1950, in Wausau, son of the late Sylvester and Marian (Olson) Stiel.  On August 25, 1973, he married Joan Koppa at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau.

John worked as a certified welder at Central Fabricators and Marathon Electric for several years.  Prior to that, he was a mechanic at Cloverbelt Co-op.

He enjoyed camping, attending family gatherings, Packer games and listening to 50’s and 60’s golden oldies.  John had a love for all things racing, short track and NASCAR.  He knew many of the local drivers and spent a lot of time in the pits working on their cars.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Stiel; sister, Judy Stiel; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Allen) Otto and Sue Dawson; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Wausau.  Rev. Samuel Martin will preside.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service all at Holy Name Catholic Church, Wausau.
