John F. Falkowski, 90, Rothschild, died Thursday May 9, 2013 at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.
He was born December 15, 1922, in Hatley, son of the late Anton and Katherine (Olinski) Falkowski. On September 30, 1950, he married Betty Morgan in Wausau. She preceded him in death August 2, 1986.
A veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army, John received an honorable discharge after his tour of duty in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre with the 80th Infantry Division. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388, Wausau.
Prior to his retirement, John had been employed at the former American Can Corporation, Rothschild. John will be remembered as a kind, gentle father that truly loved his family above all else. He was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Among his favorite things to do were gardening, enjoying the outdoors, watching birds and walks in the woods.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda (Don) Galuszka, Minnetonka, Minn., Debra (Jerry) Miller, Wausau, Kay (Rick) Bernarde, Wausau, Gena (Clint) Gibson, Wausau, one son, David (Sue) Falkowski, Rothschild, five grandchildren, Josh (Anita) Heil, Ashley (Crystal) Heil, Aaron (Jolbi) Heil, Jeremy (fiance', Annie) Falkowski, Steve (Kim) Reed, nine great grandchildren, Sabrina & Mikaila Heil; Ivy & Anthony Shaw, Bianca Heil; Keera & Kadin Heil and Jaiden & Mazie Reed; one sister, Lillian (Bob) Bucholz, Boulder Junction and special friend of the family, Sharon Ritchie, San Antonio, Tex.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Joe "Smokey" (Sylvia) Falkowski, Stanley (Mary) Falkowski, Eddie (Betty) Falkowski and Annie (Max) Mullen.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday May 14, 2013 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. The Very Rev. Allan Slowiak will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the VFW Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
