Joan R. Seubert

Joan R. Seubert, 96, Marathon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born March 24, 1929 in Marathon, daughter of the late Richard and Marie (Sauter) Gassner. On July 23, 1949, she married John P. Seubert at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marathon. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2002.

Joan was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was very proud of belonging to the Church Renovation Committee in 1993. She was very active with the PCCW at St. Mary’s and in 1963, she was chairman for the PCCW recipe book and created all the artwork throughout the cookbook. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, sewing and playing Bridge. Joan’s true passion was her artwork and throughout her life, painted hundreds of oil paintings, along with many other types of artwork.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include, three children, Claire (John) Blume, Marathon, Jerome (Deb) Seubert, Athens and Eric (Cathrin Beilby) Seubert, Green Bay; daughter-in-law, Darlene Seubert, Rhinelander; her grandchildren, Tammy (Paul) Radtke, Denise (Dave) Pickering, Gwen (Josh) Gregory, Maria (Josh) Hertel, Josh (Alyssa) Seubert, Seth Seubert, Lindsey (Zach Glenn) Seubert, Chad (Margaret Retzlaff-Lasee) Seubert and Dane (April) Seubert; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Frank Gassner; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Seubert, Marathon, Sister Johanna Seubert FSPA, Willard and Rita Gassner, Wausau; brother-in-law, Father August Seubert OFM Cap., Appleton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Seubert on Saturday, January 17, 2026, her parents, husband, John; son, Michael; brother, James Gassner; sister-in-law, Betty Seubert; and brothers-in-law, Alexius Seubert and Joseph Seubert.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
