Jean Helen Hawley
86, Weston, died peacefully Wednesday, February 23, at Cedar Ridge Elder Services, Weston.
Jean was born November 18, 1924 in Wausau daughter of the late Virgil and Helen (Weber) Callaway. On December 2, 1944 she eloped and married Loren Hawley in Oshkosh.
Jean enjoyed eating out especially at Annie's Restaurant and traveling. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She was so excited about two more granddaughters due this spring.
Jean taught Sunday school when she was younger. She was also a den mother for her son's cub scout troop. Jean even modeled at her uncle Ervin Hall's car shows. She worked as a nursing assistant in a nursing home in Schofield and the Homme Home in Wittenberg. She also worked in the supply room at the Nevada State Hospital, Reno and later in Winkelman's Department Store, Wausau
For a big part of her life Jean was a homemaker. She loved keeping an emaculate house and raising her two sons. For many years Jean and her husband Loren raised sought after purebred German Shepherds. For the last 7 years they loved taking care of their cat Stripey.
Jean and Loren celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in December. They were each other's best friends. After Loren passed away on January 18, 2011, Jean was lost.
Survivors include two sons, Calon (Ann) Hawley, Hatley; Richard (Janice) Hawley, Marathon; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt) Everson, Wisconsin Rapids, Chris Hawley, Weston, Derek (Ashley) Hawley, Weston, Erin Hawley, Hatley; one great granddaughter, Zoe Everson, Wisconsin Rapids; a sister Nancy Steinbach, Fort Wayne, IN; one brother-in-law Dennis (Kay) Hawley, MN; six sister-in-laws Carol (Gary) Oslage, Tomahawk; Eleanore (Phillip) Halkoski, Milwaukee; Arlene (William) Feck, Wausau; Janet (Richard) Abt, Ringle; Janet Hawley, Birnamwood, Gloria Hawley, Rothschild and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Loren, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-laws: William Steinbach, Wallace (Lois) Hawley, Ronald, Donald Hawley, Roy Hawley, Neil Hawley, Jerry Hawley and her life long friend Shirley Kroppla.
Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau. The Rev. Philip Bogen will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until time of services Sunday at the Stewart Ave. funeral home
Jean was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a very gentle soul who showered everyone with unconditional love. Her laughter hugs and kisses will be missed. We know that she is now at peace and reunited with her loving husband, Loren in Heaven sharing a piece of lemon meringue pie.
