Jean M. Hartman, 82, Athens, died Sunday, August 14, 2011 under the care of the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born June 2, 1929 in Wausau, daughter of the late Wilfred and Edna (Wendt) Braun. On September 16, 1989, she married William Hartman at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. He survives.
Jean worked as a bookkeeper at the Bank of Athens for many years and was the proprietor and owner of the former Wagon Wheel Tavern. She was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters Court #1074 and a member of the St. Anthony PCCW. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Bill, knitting and was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and Green Bay Packers fan.
Survivors include, her husband, Bill Hartman, Athens; one daughter, Jolie (Randall) Weiler, Weston; one grandson, Nicholas (Lindsey) Weiler, Loveland, Colo.; five siblings, Joan Smith, Port Washington, John (Marion) Braun, Marathon, Tom (Beverly) Braun, Athens, Joe (Joan) Braun, Milan and Judi (Jim) Hartman, Athens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Esselman; one sister, Joyce Riehle; and one brother, Bill Braun.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Very Reverend Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services all at the church. There will be a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church.
