Jean Crego 84, formerly of Wausau, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Brewster Village, Appleton. She was born May 30, 1922, in Saxon, daughter of the late John and Ida (Carpenter) Melchert. Jean will always be remembered as a very thoughtful and giving person. She had been employed for 16 years at the Wausau Medical Center as a claims processor, retiring in 1990. She was a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club. A member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau, she also belonged to their Parish Council of Catholic Women and held the distinction of serving the longest term as council president. She also did volunteer work at the United Way. Survivors include a sister, Marjorie (James) Swartz, Antigo, two nephews, Gary (Kay) Swartz, Appleton and Kenneth Swartz, Antigo; three great nieces, four great nephews, many great great nieces, nephews and her special friend, Arlene Parker. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in the Saxon Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
