Janice Mary (Burr) Evert was called to Heaven to be with the Lord on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the age of 77, in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Jan was born the third daughter of four girls on January 16, 1947, in Marshfield, Wisconsin to Adeline (Wagner) and Earl Burr. She grew up in Marshfield surrounded by her many aunts and uncles and graduated from Columbus Catholic High School. After graduation she moved to Madison to attend technical school to become an EEG Technician. While attending school she met a young man, but thought he wasn’t “the one.” He enlisted in the Navy and went to Vietnam. After his tour, he returned to Madison in 1968. Jan ran into him one night while out with a friend in February 1969 and discovered he had changed while in the military. Jan and Dale Evert were married on July 25, 1970. They welcomed their daughter, Rebecca, in 1972 and son, Eric, in 1974. There were many moves in their 54 years together: Carol, Iowa; Brown Deer, Wisconsin; Wichita, Kansas; Louisville, Kentucky; Cleveland, Ohio; Gurnee, Illinois; and finally returning to God’s country and settling in Wausau. In every home, Jan enjoyed planting flowers and had beautiful displays. She enjoyed collecting cows after leaving Wisconsin, baking Christmas cookies, and bragging about her kitties. Nana was blessed with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She wasn’t one to gush over them, but loved them all.
Jan is survived by her husband, Dale, and their children Rebecca (James) Noeske and Eric (Diane) Evert; Rebecca’s children Christopher Kolden, Kayla (Jacob) Schar, Lindsey (Phil) Anklam, Samari Kolden, Makenzie Kolden, and Zackary Kolden, and her grandchildren Kaden, Bentleigh, Braydin, Cameron, Noah, Adeline, Ryder, and Chase; Eric’s children Blair (Alex) Setter and Andrew; and by her sisters Judy Hauke, Patti (David) Lee, and Mary (Gary) Anderson. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Robert Hauke.
A Visitation to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1104 South 9th Avenue, Wausau, WI 54401. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Samuel Martin. All are welcome to wear their Hawaiian attire to celebrate Jan’s journey to Paradise. There will be a luncheon to follow. A private burial will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local Humane Society.
Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are fortunate that she gave that young man a second chance to be “the one” all those years ago.
