Janet R. Huntington, 80, 3604 S. Mountain Road, Rib Mountain, died Wednesday March 21, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, after a fall at home on March 1, 2012.
Janet was born February 26, 1932 in Wausau, daughter of the late Fred and Cecilia (Meuret) Doepke. On July 8, 1953, she married Bill Huntington. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2009.
Janet lived in Rib Mountain her entire life. She graduated from Wausau High School. She was crowned Wausau Winter Frolic Queen in March 1953, and won a train trip to Sun Valley, Idaho. She work for over 40 years at Weyerhaeuser, retiring in 1991. She and Bill also had a hobby farm where they raised beef cattle. After retiring, Janet volunteered doing bulk mailings at the Wausau Chamber of Commerce, Marathon County Health Care Center and Wausau Foundation for many years, until she stopped to take care of Bill full time. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388 of Wausau. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed watching any football games and hosting Packer parties with Bill in their Packer Party Barn.
Survivors include, her sister, Doris Erickson; nieces and nephews, Fred Decker Jr., Gary (Shelley) Decker, Marge Erickson-Ongna, Clark Erickson, Patti (Steve) Schneider, Karen (David) Bauer; great nieces and nephew, Andrea Schneider, Alison Ongna, Haley Decker, Erin Bauer and Garreth Bauer; sisters-in-law, Ellen Richards, Joyce Huntington, and Alice Huntington; and her constant companion and best friend "Rocky" and many dear friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Fred Decker; brother, Fritz Doepke; brother-in-law, Ogden Erickson; brother-in-laws, Richard, Robert and LaVerne Huntington; and sister-in-law, Rosalyn Russ.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. The Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Sixth Street funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can he directed to Marathon County Humane Society or Doepke Recreational Park.
Janet's family would like to thank Dr Cygan and the nurses and staff of Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Hospice and Palliative Care Unit, for providing such compassionate care during her final days.
