James "Jim" Richard Young

James “Jim” R. Young, 73, Schofield, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 14, 2025.

He was born November 16, 1951 in Wausau, son of the late Jesse and Antoinette “Nettie” (Jesse) Young.  On July 12, 1975, he married the love of his life, Linda Achenreiner at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild.  She preceded him in death on February 9, 2016.

Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1973, then joined the Army National Guard in 1975 and served for over 20 years.  Jim loved all things military!  For many years, he worked in the shipping department at Kraft Foods in Wausau until his retirement.  Jim was a volunteer firefighter/EMT for the Schofield and Rothschild districts.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed attending the EAA Airshow in Oshkosh and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include, three children, Courtney (David) Lynch, Janesville, Brandon Young, Schofield and Ryan (Rachel) Young, Weston; two grandchildren, Aiden and Peyton Young; two siblings, Rick (Rhonda) Young, Tomahawk and John “Jack” Young, Wausau; mother-in-law, Dolores Achenreiner, Weston; sister-in-law, Lori (David) Jeannette, Indiana; brother-in-law, Larry (Gwen) Achenreiner, Onalaska; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Linda, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lawrence Achenreiner; and one sister-in-law, Sue Young.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau.  Rev. Joseph Albert will officiate.  Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 10, Wausau.
