James C. Parkinson
James Charles Parkinson, 54, Wausau, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. He died peacefully, with family and friends at his side, after a long battle against complications from a stroke and multiple major surgeries.
Dozens of friends and family visited Jim in his final days, reflecting how greatly his company was cherished and how deeply he will be missed.
Jim was born on May 4, 1950, in Medford, OR, to John and Thelma (Brandt) Parkinson. Jim grew up in Dallas, TX, and Wausau, graduating from Wausau High School in 1968. He attended the University of Wisconsin Marathon Center and UW-Eau Claire. Jim also saw active duty in the US Army from 1974 to 1976. For the past 20 years, he was an employee of Viking Electric in Wausau.
Jim's passion for life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He was a well-respected amateur lepidopterist and has specimens from his extensive butterfly and moth collection on display at the Milwaukee Public Museum. He enjoyed fishing and hunting duck and other small game. Jim played softball, golf, pick-up basketball, and racquetball, and enjoyed spectator hockey, golf and football. Other hobbies included cooking, gardening and music.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Furry) Parkinson, Wausau; his brother, John Parkinson and wife Mary, Arnold, MD; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Furry and husband John Seltz of St. Paul, MN, and Joan (Furry) Roberts and husband Rick of Houston; three brothers-in-law, Daniel Furry and wife Suzette of Plymouth, MN, Andrew Furry and wife Cynthia of Plano, TX, and Carl Furry and wife Diane of Austin, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma Parkinson.
Jim's family wishes to thank all his friends and colleagues who made long and frequent drives to visit Jim in Green Bay and who provided great comfort at a difficult time. They also thank the exceptional staff at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, whose compassionate and professional care made a world of difference to Jim and Beth.
Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
