James F. Nikolai
72, 1903 E. Second St., Merrill, died Thursday, September 19, 2002 under the care of Comfort Care & Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born October 26, 1929 in Wausau, son of the late Joseph and Helen (Marquardt) Nikolai. On October 29, 1949, he married Dorothy Mohr at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives.
As a carpenter in the residential and commercial construction trade, James had been employed with Adolfson & Peterson, Johnson Brothers, was in a long association of construction and remodeling at Claridge Motor Inn, Rhinelander and was also in partnership with his sons in residential construction. Among his favorite hobbies were, woodworking, fishing, traveling and rooting for the Packers.
Besides his wife, Dorothy Nikolai, Merrill, he is survived by his children, Joseph (Jane) Nikolai, Weston, Linda (Tom) Tompach, Gleason, Robert (Peggy) Nikolai, Merrill, Laurie (Chuck) Svetlik, Merrill and Andrew Nikolai, Tomahawk; ten grandchildren, Roy (Kelley) Sefton, Athens, James (Sara) Nikolai, Appleton, Julie Nikolai, Green Bay, Michele Sefton, Gleason, Jackie (Joe) Krznarich, Janelle (Ed) Anderson, Jordan (Amanda) Nikolai, Jess Nikolai all of Merrill, David Nikolai, Schofield and Aubry Shaver, EstillSprings, Tenn.; seven great grandchildren, Emily Nikolai, Cody Krznarich, Trevan Nikolai all of Merrill, Stephanie and Brett Sefton, Athens and Rebekah and Elisha Nikolai, Appleton; brothers and sisters, Anthony (Loriena) Nikolai, Agatha (Leroy) Carlson, Josephine (Ray) Myszka, Lawrence (Gail) Nikolai and Anna Nimz all of Wausau and Jerome (Regina) Nikolai, Mosinee; two sisters-in-law, Florence Nikolai, Mosinee and Mary Jane Nikolai, Wausau; many nieces nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and John Nikolai; one sister, Mary Jaecks.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Saturday September 21, 2002 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church in Merrill.
