James H. Krause

James H. Krause 76, Schofield, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born November 14, 1929 in Wausau, son of the late Albert and Gertrude (Rhyner) Krause. On December 29, 1951 he married the love of his life and "Sweetie", Dorothy Valiska in Minnesota. She survives. Jim graduated from Wausau High School in 1947 and entered the United States Navy serving in the Korean War from 1947 until 1952. He proudly served in the US Army Reserves. For 42 years, Jim had been employed at the former Zimpro. Jim and Dorothy also owned and operated Laundromat/Car Washes in Schofield, Wausau and Mosinee. Jim was a life member of St. Therese Catholic Church and served his parish in many capacities. He was current president of the Casa Therese Board of Directors which oversaw the development of the former convent and parish property which was renovated into rental units. He also served on the Parish Finance and Pastoral Councils, he received the Lifetime Volunteer Award, was an usher and worked many summer picnics through the years. As a lifelong resident of the City of Schofield, Jim's roots ran deep through the community as it became his friend and his passion. James was currently serving his fourth term as Schofield's Mayor. As a testament to his great pride and concern for the community, he even conducted official business from the hospital in the days before his death. Among his many civic involvements, Jim served as Fourth Ward Alderman for 22 years, served as City of Schofield Health Officer for 10 years, was a member of the Schofield Fire Department, currently served on the Board of Directors of McDEVCO, the Marathon County Housing Authority and the Central Wisconsin Visitors Bureau Board of Directors. Among many other major efforts, he helped organize the creation of a joint police force by blending the Schofield and Weston forces to form the Everest Metro Police Department. He was vice chairman of the Everest Metro Joint Finance Committee and also spearheaded the creation of several TIF Districts in Schofield. Past memberships include the Wausau Elk's Lodge No. 248, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, George Schreier Council No. 1069 and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Pere Rene Menard General Assembly, where he also served as Faithful Navigator. The cottage on Rollingstone Lake provided the Krause's with a place to relax and unwind. Jim and Dorothy enjoyed family gatherings, Packer Parties, fishing, boating and travel. Special times with Sheryl were spent gardening and canning, for Lisa, memorable times were discussing City Council issues and playing cards. For many years after retiring, they spent winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where they made many good friends. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Krause, Schofield, two children Sheryl (Douglas) Kazda, Schofield and Lisa Krause, Schofield, five grandchildren, Megan Warosh, Matthew Warosh, Amy (Steve) Martin, Christopher Kazda and Curt Kazda, two great grandchildren, Grace Lynn Martin and Noah John Martin and one sister, Dona (Robert) Stieber, Weston. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, Lori Lynn Krause and Karen Warosh, one son Thomas Krause, one sister Alberta Bachhuber and three brothers, Lyle, Donald and Larry Krause. A memorial mass will be Noon Friday, September 29, 2006 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. The Rev. Donald Berg will preside. Burial will be at a later date in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, with Rev. Janusz Kowalski officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Therese Parish or to help enhance the beauty of the Schofield Parks.
