James (Jim) Joseph Furmanek of Goose Creek, South Carolina died Friday, May 15, 2026.

He was born on May 10, 1950 in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Ambrose and Violet Furmanek. Jim graduated from Wausau High School and had a distinguished 20-year career in the Air Force.

Upon retirement, he worked an additional 20 years with McDonnell Douglas and Boeing with focus on building, launching, and maintaining the C17 Globemaster.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Liz), sisters Bridget Litza, Shirley Van Slate (husband Jim Ludwig), brother John (wife Nola), and seven nieces and nephews.

Jim's greatest joys were driving his Corvette, playing golf, and watching the Packers and Brewers on his giant TV.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. A short visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
