James "Jim" S. Albrecht

March 4, 1945 — December 15, 2025

James “Jim” S. Albrecht, 80, passed away surrounded by loving family on Monday, December 15, 2025, from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) “Lou Gehrig's disease”. His final days were under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services of Wausau and Pine Crest Nursing Home of Merrill, and the family is grateful to both for the tender care provided to him.

He was born March 4, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, the son and only child of the late Roland and Marion (Luhta) Albrecht. After graduating from Grinnell College in Iowa, he attended the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton where he received his PhD in Paper Chemistry in 1971. He was the Technical Director of the (then) Mosinee Paper Corporation for 20-plus years. Jim was blessed with beautiful women in his life. On May 16, 1970, Jim married Carolyn Leppla in Waukesha, and while married, they had two daughters together. On June 6, 1992, Jim married Lynette Gantner in Mosinee, WI and his heart was broken when she preceded him in death on April 9, 2006. His joy in life was restored when on September 24, 2011, he married Ellen Fields in Cadott, WI.

Jim devoted himself to supporting and caring for his family, including his extended family of in-laws, stepchildren and grandchildren, foster grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all his precious pets through the years. He enjoyed music, especially at church, and he spent countless hours happily landscaping and gardening. He loved to travel and spend time in nature and at his cottages up north. He relished a very active lifestyle of bicycling, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing, wildlife watching, photography, and camping all through his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lynn. Survivors include his beloved wife, Ellen Albrecht of Wausau, WI and stepdaughter Karen (Phil) Konrath of Thiensville, WI; cherished daughters Erika Albrecht (Jeff Bartnik) of Wausau, WI and Tanya Albrecht of Springfield, TN; grandchildren Felipe Mosqueda of Marathon, WI, Rafael Mosqueda of Sandy, UT, and Aria Quiggle of Oshkosh, WI; great grandchildren; and his dear cousins and relations in Ontario, Cananda.

Jim was a man of strong faith and was a member with his wife Ellen at Bible Truth Chapel, 1600 N. 1st Ave, Wausau, where visitation will be 9:00-11:00 with a memorial service to follow 11:00 on Friday, January 9, 2026. Rev. David Hart will officiate. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter.
