James "Jim" A. Hannes Sr., 74, Wausau, died Friday, August 3, 2018 at home, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born October 26, 1943 in Kenosha, son of the late Henry and Alice Hannes. On June 1, 1968, he married Joan Weise in Kenosha. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Math. He was a veteran of the United States Army. His entire professional career was spent at Wausau Insurance, retiring in 1999. He was a former member of the Stettin Lions Club and a board member the Marathon County Youth Hockey Association.
Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cottage up North, attending his grandchildren's many sporting events, and his Tuesdays playing cards and/or golfing with the guys. Jim recently took up woodworking as a hobby and built beautiful furniture for family members.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joan Hannes, Wausau; two children, James Jr. (Renae) Hannes, Wausau and Jennifer (Chad) Cook, Cumming, GA; three grandchildren, Abigail and Cole Hannes and Kendall Cook; two brothers, Richard (Susan) Hannes, Kenosha and Henry (Barbara) Hannes, Casper, WY; brothers and sister-in-laws, Barbara (Dewey) Reilly, Susan (Mike) Seramur, Tom (Bonnie) Weise, Nancy (Ed) Tutas, and Barbara Hannes; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Hannes; one nephew, Jason Hannes; and father and mother-in-law, Gene and Joan Weise.
A service celebrating Jim's life will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 330 McClellan Street, Wausau, WI 54401 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service.
