James A. (Doc) Makowski, D.D.S., 78, 12673 Ellison Wilson Road, North Palm Beach, Florida, passed away at his home on November 23, 2005.
He was born February 12, 1927 in Milwaukee. On October 7, 1971 he married his beloved wife, the former Myra Matysik.
"Doc" graduated from Marquette University, Milwaukee in 1953 and practiced dentistry for 40 years, first in Marathon City, Wisc. and then later in North Palm Beach, Fla. He was a member of the American Dental Society, the North County Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association and the Florida Dental Association.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and for 60 continuous years was a proud member of the American Legion, Alois Dreikosen Post No. 469, Marathon.
Doc was a real sports fan. He particularly enjoyed watching football, basketball, and golf. He was a very good golfer himself and played weekly with his buddies, and even though he lived in Florida for many years his loyalty to the Green Bay Packers never faded.
Doc was also an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He spent many days fishing the Florida backwaters and also traveled to Alaska to fish for salmon and halibut, and to Northern Wisconsin to fish for walleyes. Fly tying was a lifelong passion of his and he became a master at it. He enjoyed passing on his knowledge by teaching a fly tying class at the West Palm Beach Fishing Club.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Myra, step-sons, Roger (June) Writz, Merrill, Wis., Rick (Judy) Writz, Lake Tomahawk, Wis., his son, Larry (Ann) Allen, Rhode Island, his three grandchildren, Jennifer, Katie, and Joseph, a sister-in-law, Rita Makowski, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Helen (Erzyk) Makowski, and two brothers, Ronald and Daniel.
